What’s the one thing that most security professionals can agree on? It’s that good security is about so much more than great point products.
Why? Because best of breed solutions are limited in what they can do for your overall security posture. What matters is not only how effective each security solution is at defending against threats – but also how readily you can connect and share intelligence across your tools so you can boost your protection.
Given the critical role that APIs play in creating doorways between security tools, I am delighted to share the exciting enhancements we have made to our Umbrella API experience.
Our vision for Umbrella APIs
Our goal is to make it easy and fast for customers to securely implement their integration and orchestration use cases. We want our customers to be able to leverage APIs for their desired use cases and have the flexibility to customize them with the granular controls and access levels that make sense for their needs. Our APIs allow customers to maximize the value of their Umbrella investment by integrating our market-leading threat intelligence with their SIEM, XDR and other security solutions.
A use case focused approach
We intentionally crafted these APIs with our users in mind. Developers and admins can get started quickly with our APIs with minimal need to rely on detailed technical docs.
How did we make our APIs so intuitive? By listening to the problems our customers are trying to solve and grounding our APIs in their key use cases. We boiled down our APIs to four primary use cases:
- Deployments
- Reports
- Admin
- Policies
To get started, just pick a use case and make a few selections from our simple dropdown menus. The use cases guide you through implementation.
With this release, we have also acknowledged our customers’ need for multiple APIs and API keys. Nowadays, organizations have many API use cases and more than one team that is working on implementing them. This is why our revamped APIs offer admins flexibility in the volume of API keys they can create and the level of access they can offer different teams and users. This capability provides peace of mind that the API keys are being used as intended and securely. No more sharing a single API key across several users!
A clean user interface
A key ingredient of our intuitive API experience is a simple dashboard:
What’s going to happen to our existing Umbrella APIs?
Our legacy Umbrella APIs will still be around for the time being. Also, for now, nothing will happen to the existing APIs our customers and partners have in place today.
We will give both customers and partners plenty of time to migrate to the new Umbrella APIs. Stay tuned for more information.
