We are thrilled to announce Cisco Umbrella DNS-layer security is now available on any modern unmanaged, personal Android or iOS device, providing awesome, always-on, go-anywhere protection against cyberthreats.
Mobile phones are hot targets for cybercriminals
Mobile devices are increasingly becoming targets for cybercriminals because of their widespread use and computing power. As of April 2022, more than 60% of online fraud occurs through mobile devices. With remote work expanding, more employees are accessing business-critical information on-the-go from their personal devices. Organizations need to implement strong security measures to protect their users from cybercriminals.
Cisco Security Connector apps protects mobile users… but previously only for managed devices
Cisco Security Connector advances your mobile workforce by providing visibility into network traffic. This allows security teams to block malicious websites and prevent cyberthreats wherever users go. The cloud-managed app can be easily deployed enterprise-wide by IT teams using a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system. The Cisco Security Connector app also integrates seamlessly with Cisco Umbrella – our leading cloud-delivered cybersecurity solution. Umbrella ensures corporate managed mobile devices on your network are equipped with granular visibility, security, and content filtering.
However, not all remote workers have or want corporate-owned phones. For example, contract workers might not have corporate managed mobile devices, yet they still require access to dedicated company files, datacenters and information. What has been missing was Cisco Umbrella protection for individuals using their personal device to access company information.
Now available – Cisco Umbrella for unmanaged personal mobile devices
With this latest update, users can now deploy Cisco Umbrella on any unmanaged, personal iOS and Android devices. Users get unmatched threat protection with Cisco Umbrella and security teams get granular visibility into iOS and Android devices.
No MDM license required.
Top use cases
This new release is ideal for users who don’t want outside management on their mobile devices. Many workers do not want their personal phone to be managed by their employer. Cisco Umbrella security for unmanaged mobile devices is a good fit for users who want to be hands-off from their company while still being able to access company information.
- For workers who want to use their personal phone to access corporate information, Umbrella security protects those unmanaged devices. This is a Cisco initiative to safeguard corporate information while not intruding or infringing on your personal data (email, credit card information, iWallet, photos) on your phone.
- If you don’t have an MDM license but are subscribed to Cisco Umbrella, you can protect any unmanaged devices on your network that have access to mobile and roaming services.
Are there any differences with managed coverage?
User interaction is required to activate coverage, and users have the option to deactivate coverage at any time. Additionally, due to iOS restrictions, the protection status is only updated when the end user has opened the Cisco Security Connector application. Coverage-is-active confirmation can be found by checking reporting data.
