With employees and devices everywhere, Hitachi leveraged SASE and Duo Security to authenticate users and block threats
Hitachi Story Highlights (1:25)
In 2020, the world changed, and so did international conglomerate Hitachi. The manufacturer underwent a total restructuring of how the company worked, going hybrid and unearthing a considerable new challenge: Authenticating and securing workers and devices when network boundaries were no longer clear.
Hitachi’s workers, while using personal phones and other devices to access the network, were now putting the company at risk by simply doing their jobs. And that opened the door for all sorts of attacks: malware, ransomware, and other damaging disasters.
Hitachi’s answer? Leveraging a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) framework with cloud-based Duo Security to authenticate users and devices. It was the answer they needed, but here were the problems and questions asked first:
1. Having a strong password was no longer enough to stop cybercriminals from accessing the network. Was there a better way to vet and block users, and would multi-factor authentication (MFA) do the trick?
2. Threats were far more sophisticated than ever, with attackers using a variety of elaborate techniques to gain network entry, steal or access data, and more. How could the company’s security compensate with zero trust?
3. Policy management had become a nightmare, with numerous employees needing any number of different permissions. How could Hitachi develop an organized, reliable, and accurate policy management system?
In our Hitachi success story, read about the company’s cloud-centric, zero-trust transformation, and how this traditionally structured organization implemented a reliable, effective, decentralized security framework to keep hybrid workers and data safe.
